Melanotan II is a synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring 1$alpha$-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (2$alpha$-MSH).3 It works by stimulating the body's melanocortin receptors (primarily MC1R), which triggers the production of eumelanin, the pigment responsible for skin tanning.4
Beyond its tanning properties, MT-2 is known for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, interacting with MC3R and MC4R receptors.5 This often results in secondary effects such as decreased appetite and increased libido.6
UV-Free Tanning: Provides a deep, natural-looking tan with minimal exposure to UV radiation, reducing the risk of sun damage.
Appetite Suppression: Frequently used in bodybuilding during "cutting" phases to help manage calorie intake and control hunger.
Libido Enhancement: Can significantly improve sexual desire and erectile function (often referred to as a "pro-erectile" peptide).7
Photoprotection: By increasing melanin levels, it provides a base level of protection against solar radiation (though it is not a substitute for sunscreen).
| Feature | Details |
| Active Substance | Melanotan II (MT-2) |
| Manufacturer | Beligas Pharma |
| Concentration | 10 mg (10,000 mcg) per vial |
| Form | Lyophilized (Freeze-dried) Powder |
| Target Receptors | MC1R, MC3R, MC4R |
| Storage (Reconstituted) | Refrigerated (2°C - 8°C) |
MT-2 is typically administered via subcutaneous injection.8 Due to the potency of the 10 mg vial, a cautious approach is required.
Reconstitution: Mix with 2 ml of Bacteriostatic Water.9 This yields a concentration of 500 mcg per 10 units (0.1 ml) on a standard insulin syringe.
Loading Phase: * Days 1–3: 250 mcg (5 units) daily to assess tolerance.
Days 4–7: 500 mcg (10 units) daily.10
Maintenance: Once desired tan is achieved, a dose of 500 mcg once or twice per week is usually sufficient.
Timing: Administering before bed is the preferred strategy to "sleep through" initial side effects like nausea or facial flushing.
Nausea: Very common in the first few doses.11 This can be mitigated by taking a low-dose antihistamine 30 minutes prior or by injecting right before sleep.
Facial Flushing: A temporary warming or redness of the face immediately following injection.12
Hyperpigmentation: Existing moles or freckles may darken significantly.13
Safety Note: MT-2 is not FDA-approved. Individuals with a history of skin cancer or abnormal moles should exercise extreme caution and consult a dermatologist.
If you mix 10 mg with 2 ml of water:
250 mcg dose = 5 units on a U-100 insulin syringe.
500 mcg dose = 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe.
1000 mcg (1 mg) dose = 20 units on a U-100 insulin syringe.14
